Slaughters and Norton Rose Fulbright win roles on WS Atkins £2.1bn sale

Norton Rose Fulbright and Slaughter and May have picked up the lead role on the proposed £2.1bn sale of WS Atkins to SNC-Lavalin.

Slaughters team for design consultancy WS Atkins was led by senior partner Steve Cooke and Chris McGaffin.

They were supported by partners Anna Lyle-Smythe and Jonathan Fenn, who handled competition and employment issues respectively.

Canadian-headquartered SNC Lavalin meanwhile sought counsel from Norton Rose Fulbright partner Paul Whitelock, who is based in London.

Local financing issues were handled by Stikeman Elliott.

If the deal is approved by shareholders, SNC-Lavalin will become a $12.1bn professional services company with 53,000 employees.

The offer values WS Atkins at £2.1bn, with the deal expected to go live in the third quarter of this year.
