Obama’s White House counsel returns to Kirkland

The last White House counsel to serve in the Obama administration is returning to Kirkland & Ellis.

Neil Eggleston, 63, announced the move in a press release on Monday, the New York Times reports. He confirmed the move to Bloomberg Big Law Business last Friday.

Bloomberg Big Law Business says the move “isn’t a huge surprise” since Eggleston was a litigation partner at Kirkland between 2012 and 2014. In the past he practiced at Debevoise & Plimpton and the now-disbanded Howrey law firm. Most recently, Eggleston was a lecturer at Harvard Law School.

Eggleston was also a lawyer in the Clinton administration who represented the office of the president during the congressional hearings into Whitewater and the president’s statements regarding his relationship with Monica Lewinsky.

Bloomberg notes that Eggleston will be practicing in the same firm that acquired the “right-leaning” litigation boutique Bancroft in September 2016. “Here’s hoping they all get along under the same roof,” the article says.
