DLA Piper expands in Frankfurt with K&L Gates team hire

DLA Piper has expanded its Frankfurt office with a corporate team hire from K&L Gates in Frankfurt.

K&L Gates partners Mathias Schulze Steinen, Andreas Fuchsel and Claudius Paul are set to join the firm from May 1, bringing DLA’s current 21 partners in Frankfurt up to 24.

Schulze Steinen – whose practice focuses on TMT, automotive, life sciences and private equity -was at K&L Gates for almost eight years, joining from Simmons & Simmons in 2009.

Fuchsel and Paul were at K&L Gates for over six years, having joined from senior associate roles at independent firm Broich Bezzenberger in 2011.

Fuchsel’s practice focuses on company law relating to capital markets, complex restructuring measures and the structuring of joint ventures; while Paul’s practice focuses on German corporate law, particularly in the technology, life sciences and financial services sectors.

DLA Germany co-managing partners Benjamin Parameswaran and Konrad Rohde said that the team’s arrival will “significantly increase” the strength of its German practice and the Frankfurt office in particular.

This news comes after DLA Piper’s review of its international operations less than a month ago, shutting down its Canberra office, and downsizing in Europe with closures in Berlin and Georgia.

During the same period, the firm took over local Danish law firm LETT to expand its Nordic footprint and launched a Latin American office in a cooperation agreement with Peruvian firm Pizarro Botto & Escobar Abogados.
