PwC Legal boosts pensions team with Ashurst hire

Ashurst City pensions head Marcus Fink is set to join PwC Legal in another boost for the accountancy firm’s legal arm.

Fink is due to be moving to PwC Legal this summer, after five years as a member of Ashurst’s partnership.

He moved to the firm from Weil Gotshal & Manges in 2008 as a senior associate.

As Ashurst’s only pensions partner in London, Fink was responsible for leading a team of one associate and one lawyer.

He will be replaced by new joiner John Gordon – a counsel at Linklaters.

PwC Legal has been expanding globally in the past year, launching practices in Hong Kong and Singapore.

In London, the firm hired Milbank Tweed Hadley & McCloy’s only female partner in London Laetitia Costa as head of banking last June. It gained an ABS licence in 2014 and posted revenue growth of 24 per cent over 2015/16 from £48.5m to £59.9m.

City departures at Ashurst have slowed in recent months after a wave of exits last summer. The biggest loss outside London was the exit of Ashurst’ five-partner corporate and finance team in Paris to Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer.

The firm also hired two magic circle lawyers last month to boost its high yield finance practice in London. Allen & Overy senior associate Tamer Bahgat has joined as a partner while Linklaters counsel Natalia Sokolova also joined.
