Kennedys merges with 100-strong US insurance firm

Kennedys is set to merge with US insurance firm Carroll McNulty & Kull from 1 June, becoming Kennedys CMK.

The merger will add 100 lawyers in the US to Kennedys’ 975 worldwide, and offices in New York, Pennsylvania, Illinois and Texas will bring the firm’s global footprint up to 32 in total.

The firm has confirmed that after the merger, Carroll McNulty will retain the use of the CMK name in the US market.

CMK specialises in coverage and defence work across sectors including marine, aviation and financial lines. It also has construction and healthcare practices, and handles commercial litigation, real estate and employment.

Chris Carroll, one of the founders of CMK in 1997, will join Kennedys’ global strategy board, while remaining founding partners Joseph McNulty and Gary Kill will transition with the rest of the firm, which includes managing partner Margaret Catalano.

Kennedys senior partner Nick Thomas said: “Our growth is always predicated on client need and the global nature of the insurance market means that our clients will benefit from the expertise CMK can offer in the US.”
