Linklaters former US banking head to join Dechert in New York

Linklaters former US banking head Jeff Norton has joined Dechert in New York, as the firm looks to expand its corporate cross-border capability.

Norton was at Linklaters since 2005, having joined from O’Melveny & Myers where he was a partner.

He took on the role of co-managing partner of the US in 2011, but three years later, Norton stepped down from his post nine months early, leaving Conrad Tenaglia as sole US managing partner.

At the time, his mandate was to focus on developing the firm’s US banking and leveraged finance practice, which Linklaters has been trying to bolster in recent years.

Norton joins alongside Paul Weiss Rifkind Wharton & Garrison counsel Gareth Clark. They will both be partners within the firm’s corporate practice.

Dechert corporate and securities group chair Mark Thierfelder said: “Jeff and Gareth have significant experience advising clients on a broad range of complex domestic and international transactions making them natural additions to our team.”

Last year, Linklates matched the ‘Cravath’ scale and will pay its first year associates $180,000 in New York, equivalent to around £124,000 in an effort to boost talent attraction in the city.
