Addleshaws appoints new general counsel after Callander exit

Addleshaw Goddard has promoted deputy general counsel Sarah O’Neill to the top role at the firm following the exit of Simon Callander to SuperGroup, The Lawyer understands.

O’Neill has been at the firm for over three years, having joined as a senior risk and compliance officer in 2014 from Herbert Smith Freehills. At HSF, she was a risk management lawyer for under a year, and was previously a senior in-house lawyer at Allen & Overy.

Callander exited the firm this month after almost two years in the general counsel role. He was Addleshaws’ first general counsel, with legal matters previously handled by partnership secretary Peter Smith.

Callander had joined Addleshaws from Olswang, where he had spent nearly four years as general counsel. He was among several high-profile departures from the firm following the the exit of ex-CEO David Stewart in 2014.

At SuperGroup, Callander replaces former general counsel Lindsay Beardsell, who joined newly-merged Ladbrokes Coral as the company’s top lawyer at the end of last year.

Addleshaw Goddard has been approached for comment.
