Osborne Clarke loses six-lawyer Cologne team

Six lawyers have exited Osborne Clarke’s Cologne office to set up a new spin-off firm in the city.

The departures all come from Osborne Clarke’s procurement team in Cologne, headed by partners Oliver Esch and Karsten Lisch.

According to German magazine Juve, the pair will be joined by a group of four Osborne Clarke lawyers, including counsel Hanna Bahner. The new spin-off firm will be called Esch Bahner Lisch.

Esch has been a partner at Osborne Clarke for over a decade, while Lisch was promoted to the firm’s partnership just last year.

Cologne is one of Osborne Clarke’s largest offices in Germany , with over 30 partners.

A spokesperson for the firm said: “We wish them very well for the future”.

They added that there were, at present, no plans to rebuild the procurement practice in Cologne.

This morning, Osborne Clarke announced revenue growth of 12 per cent on a like-for-like basis to €245m.

The turnover growth is considerably lower than in 2015/16, when Osborne Clarke reported a 23 per cent revenue rise.

The firm also promoted six lawyers to partner at the start of last month, including Cologne-based Marc Störing in the digital business group.
