Latham loses Paris partner to Taylor Wessing in rare exit

Latham & Watkins has lost a corporate partner in Paris to Taylor Wessing, marking a rare departure from the US firm’s French operations

Taylor Wessing has hired Latham corporate lawyer François Mary, who has been a partner at the firm for over a decade. He also used to head Latham’s pro bono practice in the country.

Latham’s Paris office numbers over 20 partners following the exit.

While at Latham, Mary has acted on corporate M&A and private equity deals. Clients include Altrad Group and Bridgepoint Advisers.

Taylor Wessing launched in Paris in 2003, with a haul of lawyers from Landwell & Associés – now a member of PwC’s network.

It was raided by Nixon Peabody in 2008, after Taylor Wessing France’s then-mananging partner Arnaud de Senilhes moved with 12 partners to the US firm.

Vowing to rebuild, Taylor Wessing hired a raft of new lawyers in Paris, including a property group from Orrick Rambaud Martel in 2012.

Taylor Wessing’s Paris office is run by partner Gilles Amsallem. There are 20 partners in the office and up to 40 associates.
