Fieldfisher opens fifth Italian office in a year

Fieldfisher has opened its fifth Italian office – a year after first launching in the country.

The firm has launched in Bologna, hiring Lucchini Gattamorta & Associates founding member and corporate partner Gianvincenzo Lucchini.

He will be joined by fellow partner Andrea Gattamorta, who specialises in dispute resolution.

The opening follows Fieldfisher’s merger with local firm Studio Associato Servizi Professionali Integrati (SASPI), which gave the firm 170 fee-earners in the country. A year later, headcount stands at over 210 lawyers, including 28 partners.

The most recent Bologna office will see Fieldfisher add a further 18 fee-earners in Italy, with a number joining from the firm’s other Italian offices.

Fieldfisher’s tie-up with SASPI last July gifted it four offices in Milan, Rome, Venice and Turin.

It came amid a flurry of international expansion by Fieldfisher, with the firm entering the Birmingham market in November 2016 after combining with 18-partner outfit Hill Hostetter.

Just months later, Fieldfisher formed new associations in Beijing and Shanghai, and opened a new office in Amsterdam.

Fieldfisher was one of the first firms to announce its 2016/17 financials at the end of May, revealing global turnover growth of 34 per cent to £165m.

Managing partner Michael Chissick admitted the firm had grown through mergers, but added that the firm still delivered “exceptional results” on a like-for-like basis.

Chissick and finance director Mike Giles confirmed that Fieldfisher’s revenue increased 15 per cent to £142m when discounting the office openings.
