Former Peters & Peters lawyer sets up new business crime firm

Business crime lawyers Anand Doobay and Christina Russell have formed a new firm called Boutique Law.

Doobay is a former partner of Joseph Hage Aaronson, joining the firm after a four-year career at Peters & Peters.

He is setting up the new boutique firm with Russell, a barrister who has been with 9-12 Bell Yard Chambers for over 22 years.

Doobay and Russell have worked together on a number of matters, including a long-running fraud trial that lasted 11 months.

Boutique Law currently consists of two partners and one trainee, and will deal with criminal and regulatory matters focusing on business crime and extradition.

Speaking of the launch, Doobay said: “We’re hearing increasingly that clients want specialised advice and personal attention. Setting up our own firm gives us the chance to do this.”

Due to the size of the venture, it is anticipated that Boutique Law will focus predominantly on individual clients. However, it may act for corporates when working in tandem with a larger firm.

Doobay is currently acting for Vijay Mallya who is the subject of an Indian extradition request relating to loans advanced to Kingfisher Airlines Limited.

Russell worked most recently with the Financial Conduct Authority and United Kingdom Central Authority.
