A&O loses arbitration partner to Gibson Dunn

Gibson Dunn & Crutcher has continued its recruitment drive in London, hiring Allen & Overy (A&O) partner Jeffrey Sullivan.

Sullivan will join the firm’s arbitration team, representing clients in the energy, infrastructure and private equity sector.

He specialises in investment treaty arbitration and has led on multiple energy charter arbitrations against the Kingdom of Spain in relation to in renewable energy regulations.

Gibson Dunn has been vying to increase its presence in the energy sector after announcing the hire of its first London-based oil and gas partner Anna Howell.

She is expected to join the US firm later this year from Herbert Smith Freehills, coming months after the recruitment of a six-partner energy team from Baker Botts in Gibson Dunn’s new Houston office.

New joiner Sullivan has been a partner at A&O since 2006, starting out at US firm Foley & Lardner. He was an associate at Foley for five years from 2000 to 2005.
