Doughty Street’s Wassouf to join 3VB

Doughty Street Chambers human rights lawyer and former Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer associate Mark Wassouf has joined 3 Verulam Buildings.

Wassouf was called to the Bar in 2014 after practising in Freshfields’ public international law and and international arbitration team. In his new role he will focus on investment treaty and commercial arbitration in sectors ranging from banking, agriculture, oil and gas, and communications.

In 2014 he moved from the magic circle firm to join the human rights chambers. He has worked closely with Three Crowns Constantine Partasides QC and Georgios Petrochilos, as well as Ben Emmerson QC of Matrix Chambers, Rodney Dixon QC of Temple Garden Chambers and Doughty Street’s Amal Alamuddin.

3VB’s joint head of chambers Adrian Beltrami QC said: “On behalf of all of Chambers, I am very pleased to welcome Mark to 3VB. He has, in a short space of time, already developed a most impressive track record. He will fit neatly into our complementary practice areas and I am sure that he will build quickly on his success.”

Wassouf is currently acting as junior counsel to the independent inquiry into child sexual abuse in England & Wales (IICSA) with a particular focus on the investigation into institutional failures associated with offending outside the UK.

Another mandate won by Wassouf, a fluent Arabic speaker, is defending the Sultanate of Oman in response to an international claim brought by Middle Eastern investors. He has acted for claimants in investment claims brought against the Republic of Egypt and the Republic of Algeria.

Constantine Partasides QC, a founding partner of Three Crowns LLP which regularly instructs Wassouf, said: “Mark and I have worked closely together for a number of years. He is a high-octane practitioner, and is a natural fit with our other friends at 3VB.”

In 2016, Doughty Street lost its chief executive Robin Jackson to 3VB, where he joined in the same role following a restructure of its practice management team.
