Eversheds Sutherland opens fourth German office in Düsseldorf

Eversheds Sutherland has opened its fourth German office following a merger with Düsseldorf-based firm Grooterhorst & Partners.

The office opens today with three partners from legacy Grooterhorst heading up a team of 11 lawyers. The focus will initially be on real estate and insurance with a view to expand into a full-service practice.

Grooterhorst & Partners’ Johannes Grooterhorst and Marc Christian Schwencke join the firm as real estate partners while Ralf-Thomas Wittman will lead the office’s insurance practice.

This is the firm’s third significant global merger of 2017. First, the merger with legacy Sutherland, Asbill & Brennan went live on 1 February which was quickly followed by the merger with Singapore-based firm Harry Elias Partnership just two weeks later.

Eversheds Sutherland also launched in Brunei Darussalam earlier this year.

With this announcement, Eversheds Sutherland now has 63 offices and is in line with Co-CEOs Lee Ranson and Mark Wasserman’s vision to become a leading global law firm by 2020.

Ranson said: “We are committed to the strategic expansion of our global platform.  Our launch in Düsseldorf, an important centre of corporate activity and the industrial heartland of Germany, is a significant milestone in the rollout of that strategy.

“I’m delighted to welcome our new colleagues to the firm.”
