Tilney Bestinvest hires new GC post-acquisition

Wealth management business Tilney Bestinvest has appointed Rehana Hasan as general counsel after the company acquired rival Towry for £600m.

Hasan previously worked as Towry’s general counsel before the acquisition. She joined the wealth management firm in June 2015 after Towry’s legal head Thomas Donlon departed for London & Capital.

Hasan had been Ashurst Rowan’s group legal adviser for three years, with Towry acquiring the business last year.

Prior to these positions she worked as a lawyer at private equity house Duke Street after training at legacy firm Manches in 2007. Duke Street is known for its £50m investment into failed insurance specialist firm Parabis. Parabis later closed after entering pre-pack administration.

Hasan said: “Being appointed general counsel to a much larger group with a larger team is an exciting opportunity. Having overseen the legal aspects of the Towry/Ashcourt Rowan integration, I feel I am very well placed to meet this next challenge as we look to consolidate the group.”

As Tilney Bestinvest’s new general counsel Hasan will work closely on the integration and consolidation of the group following the acquisition. She will work with the business’s HR team to re-organise the company’s structure and work closely with its shareholders.

Gowling WLG also announced that it has ended its search of a new head of legal after poaching Mary Mackintosh from builders’ merchant Travis Perkins. The Anglo-Canadian firm had been on the hunt for a new general counsel for the last six months after incumbent Eddie Breen announced he was stepping down in April.
