Latham returns to A&O for corporate hire

Latham & Watkins has hired another Allen & Overy (A&O) partner – this time recruiting corporate heavyweight Ed Barnett.

Barnett’s move follows that of A&O finance partner Stephen Kensell, who announced he was leaving the magic circle firm over the summer.

Latham has been aggressively hiring in the City in the first half of this year, with other hires including Ashurst financial regulatory partner Rob Moulton and restructuring partner Simon Baskerville.

Slaughter and May corporate partner Sanjev Warna-kula-suriya also left the firm for Latham.

New recruit Barnett joined A&O in 1996 and worked in its New York office between 2001 and 2003.

He is a member of the firm’s technology, media and telecoms team and was named in The Lawyer’s Hot 100 in 2014 for his work with GlaxoSmithKline, Morgan Stanley and Thomson Reuters.

Last year, Barnett worked with 888 Holdings in its bid for Bwin Party, which eventually lost out to GVC.

He also advised Coca-Cola Iberian Partners on its merger with the Coca-Cola Enterprises to create a company with revenues of around $12.6bn.
