Weil bypasses London promotions for first time since 2010

Weil Gotshal & Manges has promoted no lawyers to partner in London for the first time in seven years.

The US firm has announced a global round of 10, with the firm’s New York office seeing four promotions this year.

There were two additional promotions in Weil’s Boston and Dallas offices, with the latter boosting its partnership by two new members.

Warsaw saw two promotions, accounting for the only European promotions. There was just one partner made up in Asia, with William Welty set to become a private equity partner in Hong Kong.

Private equity and M&A dominated this year’s partner promotions, as half of the new partners practise in this area.

Banking and finance saw two new joiners, while litigation and restructuring welcomed three new partners.

Weil did not promote any female partners this year, although the firm also promoted two women lawyers to counsel in a separate global round of nine. Peter Olds also became a counsel in the firm’s London private funds team.

This is the first time Weil has not promoted any London lawyers to partner since 2010.

Last year, the US firm promoted banking and finance partner Nitin Konchady in London, while James Harvey and David Irvine made the cut in 2015.
