BonelliErede opens its first Middle East office

Italian firm BonelliErede is opening its first office in the Middle East, launching an offering in Dubai.

Former London managing partner Andrea Carta Mantiglia will be the executive chairman of the new office, while corporate lawyers Marco De Leo and John Shehata will be on-site local partners.

The latter pair previously worked in the firm’s Milan office as senior associate and counsel respectively.

They will be supported in Dubai by senior associate Roberto Flammia, who was also based formerly in Milan.

BonelliErede’s new Middle East office will focus on M&A, project finance, international taxation and arbitration. It will also cover arts, cultural property and compliance law.

The launch follows similar openings in Cairo and Addis Ababa as part of the firm’s major push into Africa and the Middle East region.

This time last year, the Italian-headquartered firm launched in Egypt and Ethiopia marking its first steps into the African continent.

BonelliErede partnered with Egyptian firm Kosheri Rashed & Riad for the launch, which is made up of five Cairo-based partners. The Italian firm’s partner in Ethiopia is Teshome Gabre-Marian Bokan.
