BLP promotes five to partner with Bryan Cave decision looming

Berwin Leighton Paisner (BLP) has announced its partner promotions earlier than usual, making up five new partners as merger talks with US firm Bryan Cave continue.

The firm named its smallest-ever promotion round last April with just four new partners and that trend has continued in a round of five focused solely on London.

This year, Alan Twine and Emma La Wita join the firm’s real estate team as partners with Kate Ison, Gordon McMillan and Rashpal Soomal making partner in corporate tax, finance and LCR real estates disputes teams.

Soomal and McMillan are both home-grown, having been trainee solicitors at BLP. Ison trained at Freshfields, Le Wita at DLA Piper and Twine at Davies Arnold Cooper

BLP managing partner Lisa Mayhew said: “Our new partners have demonstrated high performance with exceptional client handling and personal service, and commitment to BLP’s strategy. I am delighted to welcome them into the partnership.”

The firm is nearing a conclusion to its talks with US firm Bryan Cave over a move with sources saying both sides are eager to reach an agreement. It was confirmed three months ago that the two firms had entered into merger discussions though there has been on suggestion that a proposed deal will fall through.
