Former Ashurst tech head moves to Brown Rudnick

Brown Rudnick has strengthened its technology and IP capabilities in London with the hire of Ashurst partner Mark Lubbock.

Lubbock has been with Ashurst for 22 years and is a former head of its technology and IP practice.

He recently provided commercial contracts advice for Aveva Group’s merger with Schneider Electric, also working in the deal team for Morrisons’ agreements with Ocado in 2016 and Gala Coral’s sale of Gala Bingo the year before.

Data gathered by The Lawyer Market Intelligence (LMI) shows this is the first significant IP hire into the firm’s London office in at least three years.

His arrival comes a few weeks after Brown Rudnick’s recruitment of Jamie Symington in its investigations team and Cadwalader Wickersham & Taft finance partner Louisa Watt.

Symington spent a decade at the Financial Conduct Authority before moving to Brown Rudnick, while Watt led Cadwalader’s loan portfolio and debt and claims trading practice in London.

Lubbock will be the 31st partner in Brown Rudnick’s London office, with the firm shown to be the 17th-largest US outlet in London according to The Lawyer US Top 50 Firms in London 2017 report.

Ashurst partner exits have significantly fallen since the summer of 2017 in which a score of lawyers exits globally.

The most recent City leavers were dispute resolution partner Ben Giaretta who joined Mishcon de Reya, and corporate partners James Wood and Dominic Ross to Sidley Austin and White & Case.
