Dutch TV personality asks court for an age change

Dutch TV personality Emile Ratelband says he feels much younger than age 69, and he wants his birth certificate to reflect that.

Ratelband, a life coach and “positivity guru,” has asked a court to shave 20 years off his March 11 birthdate, report the Washington Post, the Guardian and the Associated Press. Judges in his home town of Arnhem heard his case last Monday and are expected to issue a verdict in the coming weeks.

Ratelband espouses positive thinking. He says that becoming 49 again could help him on dating websites, make it easier to obtain a mortgage, get him more work projects, and improve his outlook on life. “If I have that age again, I have hope again,” he told AP. “I’m new again. The whole future is there for me again.”

Ratelband told the court he is willing to give up his monthly Dutch pension if he obtains the age change. Ratelbound said doctors told him he has the body of a 45-year-old man and described himself as a “young god,” according to the Guardian.

In an appearance on Good Morning Britain, Ratelbound compared his quest to change his age to transgender people being able to change their gender on legal documents, ITV reported.
