‘Justice’ is dictionary’s word of the year

Merriam-Webster has selected “justice” as its word of the year for 2018.

The word was a top lookup throughout the year, with the entry being consulted 74 percent more than in 2017, according to the dictionary’s website.

The word has many definitions and was at the center of several issues this year, Merriam-Webster explains. The dictionary notes that the U.S. Department of Justice is sometimes referred to simply as “Justice.” Special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation has been in the news throughout the year. And the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh as a Supreme Court justice also was a big news story.

The dictionary deemed 10 other top-looked up words as worthy of mention. They are nationalism, pansexual, lodestar, epiphany, feckless, Laurel, pissant, respect, maverick and excelsior.
